Artist Statement
Liam grew up in Joliet Illinois, an outer suburb of Chicago. It wasn’t till moving into the city to better pursue his education at Columbia College Chicago as a BFA in cinematography he found a medium to express his queer self. Liam finds the most intrigue in following visual interest in stories, allowing the elements of his craft to create an emotional journey without traditional plot driven narratives. Liam finds his creativity most free when given a bounding box of limitations to work with.
Liam is an award-winning cinematographer and editor; he attributes his tact as a cinematographer to his interest in post-production, much of the digital image is crafted in post than on the day. He finds being a good editor makes him a more aware cinematographer.
Liam is attracted to photography for its ability to distill what he finds captivating about cinematography. Photography removes the stressful elements of production. He is most captivated in photography with a sense of space. This approach is carried over to his motion picture work, he believes the work of the director of photography is to construct a world around the characters. To take the limitations of the lens, a single perspective, to tell the story.
