Artist Statement

Liam grew up in Joliet an outer suburb of Chicago Illinois, it wasn’t till moving into the city to pursue his education at Columbia College Chicago in cinematography he found a medium and freedom to exercise his queer self. His creativity is most free when given a bounding box of limitations. He strives to tell a story in a succinct visual language faithful to directorial intentions. In his own stories he’s covered topics of how a relationship in turmoil is looked back upon and how obtainable physical relationships are over emotional ones as a queer person.

Liam is an award-winning cinematographer and editor; he attributes his tact to his interest in the entire production process for a film. He wants to be involved in the entire process of ideation, creation, and distribution with his collaborations. He understands the needs of the crew below him setting them up for success and what decisions are needed for the story. Liam finds joy in expressing stories through the appropriate means, creating a visual language for the characters to inhabit and audience to be enveloped in.

Still photography gives him the means to distill what he finds captivating about cinematography. Capturing a sense of space that brings out emotion. To take the unique limitations of the lens, a single perspective and tell the story.
