About the piece:
A queer relationship is seen overtly in the public eye for its sexual aspects. The stereotype of hyper sexualization among queer people erodes the intimate aspects of a queer relationship, love. In all of its forms, facets, and peculiarities.
In this digital exhibition you are welcomed to see Liam's work, this was shown during Columbia's 2025 Manifest Experimental Production installations. On the day guests were welcomed from a distance to see Liam capturing his partner in the first moments of waking up, an intimate aspect of love & affection many couples can attest to.
While on this page please enjoy the music that accompanied the art installation.
How it was made:
This film was made from the short-ends of a music video I was shooting at the same time. This was shot on Kodak 500T pushed a stop for more texture, then digitally projected for the installation. The image was slowed from it's native 24 frames per second to 12 to emphasize the moments of just waking up.
The rear lights are both Inkie incandescent lights with a deep straw gel, both lights are set on a flicker box to breath life & motion into the installation outside of the video. The projector was hung off a menace arm, above the window, to not distract a viewer.
Through many iterations the idea of the audience being set outside the room stayed, I wanted to give a voyeuristic sense to a viewer that they are welcome to a degree in sharing this memory. The challenge being, making a space that balances that intended emotion & catching an onlookers attention.
Hung cloth was used to chance the hallway in front of the screening room into an area people felt comfortable standing. Personal effects of Liam and his partner were placed in the room aside two chairs for them both to share this memory.
